This is an example of pattern in a natural environment. This photo shows an interesting example of pattern that uses reflection to completely fill the frame of the photo with pattern.

This is an example of pattern in a typical setting. this is a pattern that would tend to be overlooked but you can see how the markings on the metal form a large quantity of diagonal lines that form an evenly distributed pattern.

This is an example of pattern in a structural design. what makes this example interesting is the way that the photographer captures pattern in both the structure and in the shadows that have been cast on the walls by the structure.

This is a set up example that the photographer has arranged. this photo uses the repetition of objects in a line and a good use of reflective surfaces that repeat the same pattern on each object.

patterns, evaluation

we were tasked with capturing patterns in the environment. i went out in search of any patterns that i could see around me. i was able to find a great amount of patterns around me in the form of brickwork, structural design, pavement and flowers. I was able to use some reference from my image bank in order to have a good basis in order to start searching within the environment for examples of pattern. I attempted to incorporate some interesting examples of the formal elements in order to make my images more visually dynamic. I found this task to be successful as i was able to achieve a good amount of variation within the types of photos used.

I chose this image because it is an accurate representation of the kind of pattern that we would see on a daily basis. This also shows an example of a pattern that repeats itself in an organised way. The pattern is easy to notice and is shown in a simple way.

This is an exampleof an overwhelming and unorganised pattern. The frame of this image is filled with copies of the same line and the wires loop around to create the image of a never ending repetition of pattern.

Progression:

if i were to change anything about the pictures, i would search for more obscure examples that would produce a more interesting final image. I would also like to look at different examples of pattern in varying examples of size and scale. I would do this by photographing buildings and other large objects and compare them to smaller object such as drains. This subject has allowed me to look at different ways to make my images appear to have more depth and give the image something that will interest the audience.

These two images show examples of pattern in urban areas. Both of these image incorporate lines in a way that creates a pattern within the environment. These examples of patterns are interesting because they both take place on a large scale.

these photos feature examples of patterns within structure in both natural and modern environments. patterns in our lives can often be overlooked because there are so many examples. i chose these photos because they highlight the patterns that are usually overlooked and showcase how patterns can overwhelm us in photos and can sometimes seem endless. these photos look at different types of patterns, showing examples of patterns in different colours, shapes and sizes in an everyday backdrop. you can see how nature has adapted over time by developing patterns, whether it be in the form of rock layers or stripes developed over years of evolution. sometimes patterns in our lives are unintentional, like the windows and houses in the photos of the building structures that seem to continue forever.
